Throwback Thursday #3

I was flicking through some old photos today, and stumbled upon this gorgeous creature, so here's a throwback to South Of England Show, 2012. This colour is just so interesting a beautiful, I just had to share! Feel free to use these for colour refrence, and you can see more from that show on my facebook page :D

New Chunks Of Resin

I got a very exciting parcel this morning. Kelly Savage recently held a sale on some of her sculptures, and I couldn't not spend some pennies!

Firstly, I got two of her gorgeous Union Jack mini-busts, in plain white resin. I'll be painting one up as a portrait of Logan, baby black with his slightly wonky blaze, and the other will possibly be a sales piece at the start of summer. I can't wait to start painting them at home.

I also picked up something that's been on my 'want list' for quite a while, a copy of her Fly-Fishing medallion. I hadn't realized that Kelly was still selling and casting them! Even in the plain white it looks so incredible, I'm in no hurry to paint this one up. However, when I do, I'm thinking 'spots and splashes'.

Lipizzaner Update

Little update on the Lipizzaner. Started on the face and baked him yesterday so he's much more solid. Need to pick up some more epoxy asap to work on him more now. Sand off them eyes and rebuild them, ears, mane, tail, legs, hooves, then onto all them tiiiiiny tiiiiiny details! But that'll all have to wait until I buy some epoxy ..

Subscription Sunday: EQUIPOSE

New segment, 'Subscription Sundays'! I'm going to do blog posts sharing some of my favourite sources of reference or research. I'll share some of my equine-based books, my photos from galleries and museums of horse sculptures and tack, as well as my go-to websites for reference images.

Today I'm going to share a book I received in the post recently, 'EQUIPOSE' by Christopher Makos. I ordered it on a whim, pre-owned over Amazon cheaply (my greatest weakness!) and it was well worth it. Full of lots of interesting views, deep-contrast images, and close-ups of unusual details and coat patterns.

I can't wait to get home and make use of these refrences in my sculpting, sketching, and painting.

Throwback Thursday #2

I've missed a few Thursdays so far, but here's a little throwback to last July, when Leah asked me to take some photos of her young mare, Mia. Mia is a 5 year old cob X sports horse mix, and carries a homozygous colour gene, meaning she will always throw coloured foals. Her dam, Molly, is also kept on the farm and is a large coloured, they look pretty alike. Leah intended to sell Mia and focus back on Molly, but this little mare just wont budge, shes been viewed several time, once they even said they'd take her (she wouldn't load into their box and they immediately gave up and didn't want her anymore) so she's still chilling in the fields a few years later. Leah and I are planning to start backing her this summer, which could be pretty amusing and I'm assuming we'll both end up with some bruises! Oh well, enjoy these snaps from last summer.

I've always meant to get around to painting a copy of her, but I procrastinate so much that there's no hope in hell I'll get around to it any time soon. At least I have half a tonne of reference images for her, I guess.
